Visa exemptions
Citizens from many countries do not require a visa to enter Mexico for tourism, business, or congress participation if the stay is less than 180 days.
You do not need a Mexican visa if you hold a valid, multiple-entry visa or permanent residence permit for any of the following countries:
- Estados Unidos
- Canadá
- United Kingdom
- Japan
- Schengen Area countries
If this applies to you, you only need to present your passport and proof of accommodation or congress registration upon arrival.
Visa required
Delegates from countries/territories not included in Mexico’s visa exemption list must apply for a Visitor Visa (Visa de Visitante sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas). This visa allows participation in academic meetings, conferences, and similar events without paid employment in Mexico.
Applications must be made in advance at your nearest Mexican embassy or consulate. Requirements typically include:
- a valid passport (minimum six months’ validity)
- a completed visa application form
- a recent passport-sized photo
- proof of sufficient funds for your stay
- proof of travel arrangements and congress registration
Processing times vary, so we recommend applying at least 10 weeks before your trip.
